The Mason Road corridor is doing the heavy lifting
If you drive Mason Road on a weekday, the new dining density is not your imagination. Fuzzy's Tacos and Margs opened its newest Katy location on December 22, 2025 at 233 S. Mason Road, with signature tacos, margaritas, and a laid-back dining format. A few minutes north, Meltz Grill, a locally loved comfort-food concept known for burgers, gyros, and hearty plates, added a Mason Road location and is one of the newer local-style eateries to actually open rather than sit in a "coming soon" holding pattern.
Add the 24-hour drive-thru Whataburger near Katy Park, which has already become a habit for families, coaches, and late-night crews in a part of Katy that had thinner food options, plus Portillo's, which is already open near Katy Asian Town, and the pattern is clear: if you want to try three new places without burning a tank of gas, stay on Mason and its immediate offshoots.
What that means for a resident, in practice:
- Weeknight dinner options between S. Mason and Katy Asian Town roughly doubled in the last twelve months.
- The new spots skew fast-casual and family-friendly, which fills a real gap between chain fast food and full-service Tex-Mex.
- Reservation friction is low at all of them for now. That window closes once the summer novelty wears off.
LaCenterra is still the anchor, and June raised its ceiling
LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch has been the center of gravity for Katy dining for years, and it just added its most ambitious tenant to date. North Italia opened a new location in Katy in June 2026, spanning a nearly 9,000-square-foot space with seating for up to 300 guests. The build includes a large dining area, indoor and outdoor bar spaces, two covered patios, and an open kitchen where guests can watch chefs prepare fresh pasta and pizzas. The design leans on artwork by Texas mural artist Kyle Wadsworth and takes cues from Katy's historic oak trees, mixing Texas influences with Italian themes.
The scale matters. A 300-seat room with two patios is not sized to be a special-occasion restaurant. It is sized to absorb the weekly regulars LaCenterra already has, and it will change what "meeting friends at LaCenterra" defaults to on a Friday.
The recurring programming around it is doing quiet work in the background. The lineup of free activities includes Yoga on the Green every Wednesday at Central Green Park, the Sunday Farmers Market at LaCenterra, weekly running club meetups at LaCenterra, the City of Katy's free summer programming at parks throughout July 2026, and Katy Market Day on the third Saturday of each month in Historic Downtown Katy. None of that is new. What is new is that you can now anchor a Sunday around the farmers market and have a serious dinner option on the same block.

Crust Pizza Co. is opening a fresh location in Katy's Jordan Ranch Market with thick-crust pies and fresh salads, adding to the growing food corridor west of I-10. Insomnia Cookies is planning its Katy debut in 2026 with warm cookies served until 1 a.m. or later, plus classic flavors and limited-edition drops. Melt n Dip, a Middle Eastern-inspired dessert shop known for crepes, waffles, gelato, and fruit trays with Belgian chocolate, is opening its first-ever Katy location in 2026.
A resident's weekend, built from what is actually on the calendar
The next few weekends have enough scheduled programming that you can build a Friday-to-Sunday plan without pulling out a search bar. Working from the current calendar:
- Friday morning. Frosty Fridays runs every Friday in July with free frozen treats and family activities at parks throughout the City of Katy, cycling through VFW Park, Woodland Park, Katy Dog Park, and Katy City Park. Good for kids who need to burn off a morning before it gets brutal outside.
- Friday evening. The Texas Eagles tribute band plays Central Green Park on Fri, July 31. Bring a blanket. Pair it with an early dinner at one of the Mason Road openings if you want to avoid the LaCenterra parking crunch.
- Saturday morning. The Fulshear Farmers' Market at 9035 Bois D'Arc Ln runs every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with produce, meats, baked goods, and local artisans. It is a cleaner market experience than most Houston-metro Saturday markets right now.
- Saturday evening. KTX Market is a free event at No Label Brewing Co. on select Saturdays from 5:00 p.m. onward. Casual, dog-friendly, and it doubles as dinner if the food trucks are on.
- Sunday. The LaCenterra Farmers Market runs weekly with fresh produce, artisan goods, and local flavors. Walk it, then stay for lunch on the patios.
- First weekend of August. The Back to School Bash lands at Central Green Park on Sat, Aug 1, followed by the Peach Truck Tour 2026 pickup at Katy Mills Mall on Sun, Aug 2, and the End of Summer Send-Off at Woodsland Community Park on Fri, Aug 7. Three anchors, three different parts of town.

Texas Heritage Marketplace is a 165-acre mixed-use project under construction near I-10 and Texas Heritage Parkway, projected to bring more than 750,000 square feet of new retail, dining, and entertainment space along with five acres of green space for community events, trails, and outdoor gathering areas, anchored by a new Target Supercenter. Tenant openings are anticipated to roll out throughout 2026 as construction phases are completed. Across town, Fulshear Central, a 22-acre mixed-use site at FM 1093, is scheduled to open its first phase by early 2026.
Translation for a current resident: the center of gravity for a Katy Saturday is going to shift west over the next twelve to eighteen months. If you live in Cinco Ranch or Cane Island, that mostly means shorter drives. If you live closer to Katy Mills, it means the western corridor is going to compete for your weekends in a way it did not last year.
